RBS – International Trade Award 2007

« Go Back to 2007

Following their impressive growth and market penetration in previous years, Commercial Management firm, Long O Donnell Associates are delighted to have been awarded the prestigious RBS International Trade Award for 2007 which was presented to Tom O’Donnell on 5th March 2007.

Long O Donnell Associates provides Commercial and Technical Services based in Cheshire. The company’s core business is Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management but over recent years, has expanded into the Health & Safety, Project Management and Inspection disciplines.

Having solidified our position in the UK markets, with particular strength in the gas distribution sector, Long O Donnell Associates decided to develop into new geographical markets. Long O Donnell Associates are currently the number one supplier to the Irish Gas board for commercial management services, and also a key provider to the Railway Procurement Agency in Dublin on their light-rail transport system.

Long O Donnell Associates have embarked on researching the export markets in 2004 following successful domestic growth in the previous 3 years. The company made contact with the UKTI and sent a director onto their ‘Passport to Export’ course, designed to help SME companies provide products and services abroad. The course enabled the company to understand what it needed to look for in its target market of Oil & Gas. As Long O Donnell Associates is a service provider, it felt key that the target market used English as one of its ‘business’ languages. This way, whether our employees were required to work domestically or in the client country, clear communication channels could be created.

However, our main entry into the international arena was to be in the Republic of Ireland. With over 1000km of gas pipelines and several new projects planned, Ireland provided an excellent opportunity to enter a new market. By replicating what was already provided in the UK, Long O Donnell Associates was able to provide services to the Irish Gas board at competitive rates, due mainly to the skill shortage that existed in the country.

The export plan of Long O Donnell Associates is to keep expanding into new geographical areas that would be served best by an experienced UK commercial organisation. We are still keen on working in the Middle East, Brazil and India and are looking to attend a UKTI outward visit to Rio in the near future.
