Dublin Non Domestic Metering Programme

« Back to the Portfolio

Fingal County Council on behalf of the four Dublin Region local authorities (Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, South Dublin County Council and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council) entered into a contract with Gerry McCloskey Engineering Ltd (GMC), to supply and install an estimated 42,000 automatic reading water meters on non-domestic (commercial) connections across the region.

The Government's National Water Pricing Policy Framework requires the charging of non-domestic customers of water services to recover the costs of providing these services to customers. Local authorities have been required to achieve universal metering of the water supplied to the non-domestic sector.

Atkins Consulting Engineers are the Employer's representatives for the implementation of this project. Only non-domestic customers will be metered under this project.

The universal implementation of metering on the non-domestic water connections will represent a fairer way for non-domestic customers to pay for water services provided by their local authority.
Scope of Project

The GMC Group carried out the following activities on behalf of and with the authority of Dublin City Council:

  • Customer Database Validation
  • Pre-Installation Surveys and design of meter and meter reading equipment installations
  • Installation of Meters and Meter Reading Technology

The project is now drawing to a close and the above activities are no longer in the scope. GMC are however still involved in the following:

  • Testing and commissioning including reading of meters for a period of two years after installation

Long O Donnell Associates provided project management and engineering services to support this important programme of work in such areas as QA/QC Management and Commercial and Contract Management
