Strangeways Bunding 33 & 66kv Transformers

« Back to the Portfolio

There are two 33/6.6kV oil insulated transformers located in an outdoor compound at Strangways Primary Substation in Larkhill Military Camp.

The two transformers are to be provided with a system of oil containment in the event that either transformer develops an oil leak either due to hydraulic failure or due to calamitous electrical failure.

The containment will consist of excavation around each transformer and the construction of a concrete bunded area around each transformer plinth with sufficient capacity to hold all the oil contained in the transformers.

In order to enable the draining away of rainwater from within the bunded areas a suitable soak-away will be constructed and the bunded areas will drain into this soak-away through an oil interceptor.

Long O Donnell Associates was awarded the EDF Energy CDM Coordination services framework contract for a period of up to 5 years commencing in October 2008.

The contract required Project Services to include CDM Coordination on EDF HV networks including infrastructure, rail and airport projects.
