Kent Cable Diversion

« Back to the Portfolio

Ashford Grid and Ashford Central Primary are located in close proximity. As such, in addition to a 132kV OHL diversion, both ZED Homes (developer of a new residential and commercial area in Ashford) and Kent Council requested that all existing 6.6kV and 33kV cables, for which EDF Energy has existing title rights, be diverted to give way to the proposed housing and new link road construction.

The Project proposed to EDF Energy Contracting gathers all the works to be done within both Ashford Grid and Ashford Central substation to accommodate the connection of diverted cables and to re-arrange the substation in order to fulfil our commitments to Zed Homes and KCC:

Ashford PAA 132kV O/H line Diversion:

Undergrounding a section of PAA 132kV OHL by erecting a new terminal tower off-line and outside ZED Homes property and recovering existing towers PAA41 and PAA42. The recommended option involves the following:

  1. Divert existing water drainage system to create space for proposed terminal tower construction.
  2. Erect 1 x terminal tower and 2 x cable sealing end platforms.
  3. Extend existing grid substation fencing and erect cable sealing end structures.
  4. Installation of 132kV underground cable ducts for later installation of 132 kV cable.
  5. Install 2x0.7km 1200mm 2Al 132kV underground cable circuits to replace existing section of PAA 132kV OHL.
  6. Recover 2x towers and a section of PAA O/H line.

Ashford Victoria Way Phase 2 B:

The recommended option involves the following:

  1. Installation of 33kV 6.6 kV, LV underground cable ducts and cables to allow road construction and future proofing of road Victoria Way.
  2. Civil works at Ashford Central primary s/s to comply with ESQC requirements safety of the public.
  3. Installation of 6.6 kV ducts to provide for connection of additional load from the new developments and CHP export generation.
  4. Installation of 33kV 6.6 kV, LV underground cable ducts and cables to allow road construction and future proofing of road o/s Singleton primary s/s.
