Ashford Grid Cables Division

Ashford Grid and Ashford Central Primary are located in close proximity. As such, in addition to a 132kV OHL diversion, both ZED Homes (developer of a new residential and commercial area in Ashford) and Kent Council requested that all existing 6.6kV and 33kV cables, for which EDF Energy has existing title rights, be diverted to give way to the proposed housing and new link road construction.

The Project proposed to EDF Energy Contracting gathers all the works to be done within both Ashford Grid and Ashford Central substation to accommodate the connection of diverted cables and to re-arrange the substation in order to fulfil our commitments to Zed Homes and KCC:

Ashford PAA 132kV O/H line Diversion:

  • Extend existing grid substation fencing in Ashford Grid.
  • Erect cable sealing end structures for two circuits and set up the appropriate busbar arrangement in Ashford Gird.
  • Design and set up appropriate earthing arrangement in Ashford Grid.
  • Investigate and if necessary implement protection changes related to the diversion in Ashford Grid.
  • Change the cable boxes on the 33kV switchgears and transformer if required in Ashford Central.
  • Accommodate the entrance to the Ashford Central substation via the new Victoria Way.
  • Rearrange the drainage system and soakaway in Ashford Central.
  • Plan area within Ashford Central substation for future delivery of new transformer.
  • Set up fire wall beside the Transformer in Ashford Central.
  • Set up appropriate measure against risks of flooding in Ashford Central.
  • Investigate and if necessary implement protection changes related to the diversion in Ashford Grid.

Ashford Victoria Way Phase 2 B:

  • Change the cable boxes on the 33kV switchgears and transformer if required in Ashford Central.
  • Accommodate the entrance to the Ashford Central substation via the new Victoria Way.
