Wigan Borough Council is responsible for maintaining the roads and pavements of adopted highways. An adopted highway is defined as one where the local authority has taken on the legal responsibility for maintenance. The total length of adopted highways in Wigan Borough is 932km (583 miles).

Long O Donnell Associates have supported Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council in all aspects of Civil Engineering and Utility Infrastructure from plans to service completion. This has included new installations and major/minor refurbishments on all types and configurations of traffic signal controlled junctions and crossings including all necessary groundwork, kerb realignment, street lighting and road markings.
