City Airport, London

« Back to the Portfolio

As part of the re-development of the East London Docklands area in general and the City Airport site in particular, the existing gas Pressure Reduction Installation (PRI) needs to be relocated.

At present the PRI is located within the secure airport site (Grid Ref. TQ 417804). It takes gas at 7bar from the intermediate pressure (IP) system and supplies both the low pressure NG network and the airport complex.

The new PRI will now be located on a plot of land which is currently used as a car park on the south-west side of the traffic roundabout on Connaught Road, just south of the City Airport.

The inlet and outlet mains will be connected into the IP and LP network in the vicinity of the existing PRI. This will involve a road crossing where a significant number of existing services are already situated below ground.

This involves installation of a new purpose built skid mounted governor module, construction of new interconnecting pipework, live connections to the existing mains system, commissioning, and then isolation, decommissioning, and dismantling and removal of the existing installation.

The works will consist of the installation and commissioning of a new skid mounted governor module, associated interconnecting pipework and kiosk. The works will include, but are not limited to:

  • Excavation, Backfill & Reinstatement.
  • Welding & Radiography.
  • Civil works.
  • Hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing.
  • Under pressure connections to the existing main system.

In addition, Isolation, decommissioning, dismantling and removal of the redundant PRI and interconnecting pipework will be carried out.

CDM Coordinator services (including F10, SWMP, input of site specific information into ITT, Health & Safety Audits, Inspections, Data Books, Review of Construction phase plans, method statements, risk assessments etc.).
